Orangutan Valley
Kaity Rupert

Orangutan Valley is an exploration in zoo exhibit and promotion design. An interest in animals and design became the motivation. This exhibit will be the highlight of Point Defiance Zoo and Aquarium in Tacoma, Washington. Orangutan Valley promises to become North America’s center for orangutan research, conservation, and education.

Dots
John Hill, Jr.

I am interested in the establishment and adjustment of meaning and visual interest across a sequence of grouped images, each in a disc format. Part of the project has been to reduce the matter – i.e., content – down to the smallest elemental unit, the "dot." With minimal space for context and clues within a single uninflected image, meaning is generated by sequencing and the judicious (or accidental) deployment of words.

You always want to tell the story in cuts. Which is to say, through a juxtaposition of images that are basically uninflected.

Robotics in the Art Classroom
Sarah Meyers

I am interested in science and engineering, art and design. I believe they can and should relate to and inspire each other. This project brings my belief to the fifth-grade art classroom via a robotics teaching unit, in which students build and program robots.

We use LEGO Mindstorms bricks (including programmable RCX bricks), and the ROBOLAB icon-based programming software. Students learn to build robots using the bricks and related units like gears and wormdrives; and they learn to program their machines.

Pier 17
Jessica Tari

Through a series of 7.5" squares, the shape of one guppy will be distorted and contorted to create decorative shapes and designs. Through placement, new forms will begin to emerge. Through arranging them all together, the piece will take on a completely new meaning and possibly tell a story.

Steez Magazine
Andy Bablo

Steez Magazine is a collaboration of my own thoughts and hobbies. I wanted to create a magazine that reflected my love for snowboarding and photography and incorporate my own personality as well. The magazine consists of witty articles, culture, photos, and factual information. I think Steez will evolve much more in the future and I look forward to seeing how much it develops over time.

Side to Side
Joseph LoVasco

I want to work with line drawings, both on flat surfaces and as three-dimensional objects in three-dimensional spaces. I will create these line drawings by hand and by other means, including digital and handtools (i.e., computer, band saw). I am interested in the line (contour, curve, etc.,); its materiality (ink, wood, etc.,); and the space its in. My work will take various forms, including laser output, stencils, freestanding and wall-hung plywood cutouts.

Quint Thalassic
Devin Toye

Three-quarters pathetic human flesh and one-fourth dead shark snout, a boy never to return to normalcy due to cosmic phenomena at the aquarium, Quint Thalassic struggles with girl problems, alcoholism, deformity and an odd form of dissociative identity disorder.
