Jessica Tari : Compare / Contrast current — The themes of each painting will vary but will remain based on things that inspire me. The outcomes will be more graphic in style with some aspects of abstract paintings. The idea for me is to create something that sparks my interest. I love to paint and I love graphic design, so I've chose to spend the semester combining the two.
previous — Through the use of homemade stencils, screen printing, photo transfers, paint and found objects I will produce a body of work to express my thoughts, worries and global or moral issues. These works will be a combination of both large and small scale with some exploration into the third dimension. Being that most of my time will be spent on work for senior seminar, I feel that a two-to-three-week time period is an appropriate amount of time to be devoting to each piece. The work can be either minimal or very elaborate depending on the theme behind it. Each individual piece will have its own message or story which is told through the multiple elements and use of specific found objects. I will use things like sand or gravel to treat the surface. While some aspect may be rough others may be very smooth. Much like color juxtaposition, I will be experimenting with textures and seeing what happens when they are placed side by side. Being resourceful and thinking outside of the box are my main goals. Through observation and research I will find inspiration to prosper in my artistic journey. Though I propose this main idea, I am aware that my trials may change, but hopefully will grow with time and turn into something even greater than I had expected. I find myself drawn to the works of Robert Rauschenberg more than most other artists. His hidden messages which one can only find through evaluating symbolic elements in his work and understanding their relationships to each other. He has a strong graphic element in some of his work and tends to use mixed media and found objects frequently. Though the projects I aspire to do next year are triggered through Rauchenberg's work they will be very different in the ways of surface treatment and in having a slightly stronger design aspect. For me, growing artistically through my own criteria is a very consuming and exciting feat which I hope to expand through both the fall and spring semesters. 1 may 06 |
