baseball cap design
pending, awaiting thumbnails perhaps.
During the last two years I have been collecting baseball caps. Up until recently hats haven’t really been too intricate. Hats were usually just the logo for whatever team centered in the front in different colors. Before 2003 you couldn’t find hats that had been fully embroidered. The most custom hat you would find would be an airbrushed trucker's hat. Now graphic designers are using more graphic elements to make baseball caps.
I would like to create my own brand of embroidered hats. These hats will be made to accommodate different people's clothing styles.
Having a targeted audience for each hat will make it easier to identify one style from the next. These hats will be based off of people that I know. My brother Kevin, my friends Ryan, Noah, R.J., and my girlfriend Thalia all have a different style that I will used to make different designs. My brother Kevin wear a lot of button down shirts and nice pants so for him I wanted to design something more classy like a fedora. Ryan has a kind of grunge look that is synonymous with illustrators and painters. Noah has more of a hip/hop type style that I can work with on a stretch fit cap. R.J. dresses kind of prep like but more like Kevin but not as flashy. Lastly Thalia being a woman could wear any of the different hats but the colors would change to appeal to women more.
For each hat design I will give myself a deadline of three weeks per design. At the end of the three weeks I will take whatever I have for a design and have it made. I have already talked to a company that can digitize the design for it to be mapped onto a hat.
The post design process works like this: The file is given to a digital embroidery company in whatever format of your choosing. The company will then give me an estimate on how much they expect the embroidery will cost. During this time you can discuss what works and what doesn’t when embroidering the hat if changes need to be made I will adjust accordingly and quickly so to stay on schedule. After we finalize the job the hat will take a couple days to code. After coding the digital file can be either done by the same company or done by a better known company with better quality hats. I will complete a hat this summer so that I can have a better idea of how much money will be needed for a successful production.
