Angura poster design came out of a period of Japanese history that is sometimes lost in the shuffle. Somewhere between the early post war rebuilding and the economic boom of the Nineteen eighties. The poster design of avant-garde theater troupes was heavily influenced on neo-american styles coming from a reaction to modernist design. Artists like Tadanori Yokoo used various elements such as collage and radical color shifts to rebel against what they thought was a tattered world, or a rubbled Japan. Brian Cannon
