Herbert Bayer was an artist who produced a large and diverse body of work over a good portion of the twentieth century. He focused on collage, paintings, photography and graphic design. His design work could be seen in most of what he did. Bayer's paintings showed his love of composition, and design, this is especially noticeable in his paintings of letters. He designed the million-mark banknote for the German government, as well as numerous posters for the Bauhaus. Bayer also did design for commercial companies, sometimes incorporating his surrealistic style in advertising for cigarettes and eye drops, for example.
