pen & ink emulation of wood engraving

Pen and ink emulation of wood engraving.

For this project I wanted to explore how my usual style of pen and ink related to wood block printing, and how I might be able to adapt the process of wood block printing using different tools, stroke techniques and applied pressure. Taking a cue from contemporary wood engraver Barry Moser, I studied his realism and his technique and process through looking at his work and listening to several of his on line interviews. Not being a wood block printer, I decided to stick to my guns -- my "weapon" -- to ensure I got the job done right. Moser uses a gouge and wood; I use pen and paper. Just like any good solider knows, it is important to know your weapon so much so that it becomes second nature.
