Animals that can hurt me
The last book I did was a two-volume story of a chicken with problems. The drawings of the chicken were painted then scanned, printed, and bound into two pamphlet books. This gave me the idea of the book that I want to work on for Seminar. I propose to make a quasi science book in the style of the old Eyewitness nature books. The Eyewitness books usually focus on one animal and show all about it, from what it eats to its muscle and bone structure. My book is going to focus on different animals that can cause injury or death to me. I want to break it down into sections depending on how dangerous the animals are. I am going to paint these animals, what they look like, what their bone and muscle structures look like, and include details of the part of the animal that they attack with. The drawings are going to be more solid than the ones that I did for the chicken books, though they still will be stylized. Along with the drawings will be icons of the certain animal, which will be color-coded to the severity of the attack. I am going to include facts and information about these various animals, what they eat, where they live, why and how they would attack, etc., as a science book would. Also include how these animals would go about harming me and what makes them particularly scary or dangerous. Included will be information charts comparing my abilities such as speed, strength and weight to those of the animal. I am also working on statistical graphics, which will be based on information in these attacks. The layout and text will be done in QuarkXPress or InDesign. This is to be a hardcover book with a dust jacket and it will focus on ten animals. I am also thinking of doing a collage at the end with some of the orginal drawings. date: 11 may 04, revised late sep 04
