Type Experiments
project duration : one semester
For my final semester of seminar I went through many ideas of what to do. The whole time I was thinking of what could be molded into both posters and books, at first I thought that maybe I could do posters and small books of information graphics which I would create. Although I couldn't really think of any subjects that I would want to do that I was familiar with, and I didn't want to turn this semester into a research session again. I finally chose to focus on different ways to experiment with type since I have always liked to mess with type and see what I could make of it. I felt that this would be a fun and interesting way to do small books and posters.
I have been going through different books to find different types of calligraphic letter forms and not so common fonts. The subjects of arrangements will vary, they may focus on one object, they may be based on a saying or quote, I want to keep the subject matter kinda free so that I can go from one project to the next. With these I plan on making type collages, some extreme and taken away from their original forms, and some more readable to go along with different short illusrtrated books that I want to produce. I also want to produce a couple posters with different types of letter collages. Along with the experiments of analog type arrangements i also want to do experminents with digital type, and like the analog ones some will be extreme and some will be more readable. I also wold like to combine these with some type of illustration. These experiments will be made on paper then scanned, as well as the illutrations. They will then be made into books and posters. The books will most likely be output in color, although there might be some, such as give-away books that would be done black and white. I would also like to do a couple of large format plotter posters to go along with the color posters.
