time as metaphor : experimentation with new mediums
second of two semesters

For the spring semester of 2005, I propose to make a body of work conceptually focused around the metaphor of time. I have always been fascinated with time. The fact that time is not concrete or physical matter, yet it governs the lives of many people. That something so conceptual can be so controlling is a bizarre idea, but something that I want to learn more about and work with in my art.

I also am interested in finding new mediums of convey my work. Such as felt, wood or any other number of similar items that one would not normally think of making graphic design with. I plan to make a large amount of small items that can be harnessed and made into a larger more finalized form. Such as making a large amount of small posters and following through with a final poster that would extract ideas from the small posters. I am also interested in making books from non-traditional mediums.

This semester I want to devote myself to making and producing a large body of work, consisting of about 1-2 final projects per month, aside from quite a bit of smaller items. I find that I work best when I concentrate on short-term projects rather than long-term projects and feel freer to push out more and consequently better ideas because of this.
