The Last Scene
love is a frightening journey don’t you think? asked the girl.
personally I’ve always thought love to be a gamble, an adventure,
a risk with more twists than a road through the woods,
the boy responded.
it’s never worth the gamble though, the girl declared,
shattering the glass case guarding the boy’s heart.
silence fell between them then,
similar to a curtain at the end of an act.
not long after they parted ways,
vowing never to imagine or voice what once was.
but at night the girl sits back and drowns herself in images of what could have been,
had fear not gotten the better end.
but at night the boy sits back and dreams of what was almost his,
had stray whispers of doubt not gotten the better end.
